The Big Shot & Street Mile

Monday 08 Feb

The Big Shot returns to Christchurch's Retro Sports Facility on Monday 8-Feb, and features Kiwi stars Tom Walsh and Jacko Gill against international competition including the Australian champion Damian Birkinhead. Walsh and Gill made history last year by becoming the first two Kiwis to make the final together in an IAAF World Championships event, now they battle it out for supremacy at home.

The new Street Mile races will feature Olympic 1500m silver medallist Nick Willis take on the Australian record holder Ryan Gregson, over an exciting circuit around the city streets, starting and finishing at the Retro Sports Facility. In the women's event, local heroes Angie Petty and Rosa Flanagan will be battling with Aussie internationals Melissa Duncan and Genevieve Lacaze for the honours.

There are also "Future Stars" children's events in each discipline.

On the preceding Thursday, the 4th of Feb, Kiwi sporting icon Rob Waddell, now chef de mission of the NZ Olympic team, will be guest speaker at the charity luncheon and memorabilia auction to be held at the Mashina Lounge.
